Visa / Residence Permit Guide for 3rd-Country Nationals
Before being able to enter and stay in Czech Republic a person that does not hold a Schengen-passport (a so-called 3rd-Country National) needs to consider a number of issues, split in 4 categories:
Schengen Visa Types
- Visa-Free Entry - for tourist purposes,
- C Visa - for stays up to 90 days, possibility to travel in the Schengen zone,
- D Visa - for stays longer than 90 days, up to 1 year, in Czech Republic only,
- C+D Visa: 'mixed-term', this type you need for relocating to Czech Republic.
Residence Permit Types
- Short-term Residence Permit - for shorter than a year,
- Temporary (Long-term) Residence Permit - for stays over 1 year,
- Permanent Residence Permit - valid for 10 years, possible after 5 years' stay,
- Citizenship - not possible to obtain, unless parents are czech.
Requirements for Visa- and Residence Application
- Work Permit and Job Contract,
- or: proof of Trade License / s.r.o. company,
- Health Insurance of a czech insurance company,
- Residence Address in Czech Republic,
- Extract of Criminal Record with Apostille
- Proof of Financal Means (min. 140.000 CZK / person / year),
- Report Duty - within 3 days of arrival in Czech Republic.
Purpose of Stay in Czech Republic
- Visa for employment purposes + Work Permit,
- Business Visa, using a trade license,
- Business Visa, using a newly formed s.r.o. company,
- Temporary Residence Permit on the basis of marriage / family.
